Bakpa Tosukope Residents Demand Justice After Community-Funded School Project Is Destroyed
Bakpa Tosukope residents are calling on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant authorities to expedite investigations into the destruction of a community-funded school project, nearly a year after the incident occurred. The project, initiated and financed by community members, began on January 1, 2025, with a fundraising exercise during the annual festival. The new school was intended to provide a safe learning environment for children after the community's mud-and-brick kindergarten structure collapsed, reduce travel distance, and minimize risks associated with commuting, including accidents involving commercial motorbikes.
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, unknown individuals allegedly destroyed the building's foundation. Residents reported that people from a neighboring community noticed a group moving with weapons, including guns, cutlasses, and knives, and alerted the police. Suspects were arrested, and some later admitted they had been sent by other individuals to destroy the project. Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) visited the site, and the incident received media attention after being reported by Dela Radio.
