'A new dawn for our legal profession' - Dafeamekpor on Legal Education Bill
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor described the passage of the Legal Education Reform Bill as a landmark achievement on March 26, 2026, in a post on his X page. He stated, "This is a product of nearly 10 years of persistent and consistent advocacy on my part, which my party bought into and made it a major campaign promise. When I began, the naysayers said it wasn't possible."
Dafeamekpor stated that the Bill will expand access to professional legal education in the country. He also said, "The reform is pervasive. The Bar too has been reformed such that we no longer have a single group of professional lawyers. Today, we have the Ghana Law Society with huge membership at the Bar." He added, "This is a new dawn for our legal profession in Ghana."
Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, presented the Bill to the House on October 24, 2025. The Bill seeks to establish the Council for Legal Education and Training to regulate professional legal education in Ghana and also provide the curriculum and standards for legal education.
