Zanetor reacts to rumours of her appointment as Defence Minister
Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey, reacted to rumours of her appointment as the Minister for Defence by President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as she was leaving the Parliament chamber. A group of journalists began hailing her, describing her as the "incoming Minister of Defence," to which she replied, "Guy, I don't know about this."
Rumours of Zanetor's appointment as Defence Minister intensified over the past few days following a social media post shared by the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey. Fifi Kwetey wrote on Facebook, "Don't rush your journey. What is meant for you will come together at the right time. Stay patient. Stay consistent. Have a great and peaceful week." President Mahama disclosed during a meeting with Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, that he will appoint his substantive Minister of Defence and Minister of Environment, Science and Technology in 2026.
President Mahama urged the public to disregard rumours about imminent ministerial appointments, saying, "So those speculating about somebody going to be appointed tomorrow and all that, just take your time, go and enjoy Christmas, and after Christmas we will fill those ones." The two ministerial positions became vacant following the demise of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Mohammed in 2025. The two late ministers were among eight individuals who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
