A Yutong passenger bus was destroyed by fire on the Mankessim-Accra highway in the Central Region on Wednesday, July 8, resulting in the loss of passengers' belongings and commercial goods. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at about 4:34 a.m. reporting a vehicle engulfed in flames. Firefighters arrived to find the bus completely consumed, despite frantic efforts by passengers and passers-by to extinguish the blaze.
The Officer-in-Charge directed the firefighting crew to deploy hoses and commence a full-scale firefighting operation, which successfully brought the fire under control and completely extinguished it by about 7:12 a.m. Preliminary investigations indicate the fire was caused by an electrical fault. The blaze destroyed the Yutong bus, leaving it beyond repair, and consumed passengers' luggage, personal belongings, and approximately twenty crates of drinks.
