Wontumi in court over fraud and GH₵30m financial loss to Ghana EXIM Bank allegations

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, is in court over allegations of fraud and financial loss to Ghana EXIM Bank, with a formal charge sheet filed on 15 May 2026 at the High Court in Accra. The charge sheet alleges "a web of deception involving altered financial receipts, non-existent farming operations, and a massive financial hit to Ghana EXIM Bank." Wontumi, 50, along with Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, and Wontumi Farms Limited, are facing four criminal counts: defrauding by false pretence, uttering a forged document, money laundering, and intentionally causing financial loss to a public body.

The allegations trace back to January 2018, when Wontumi, as Managing Director of Wontumi Farms Limited, requested a GH₵19 million credit and grant facility from Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank for commercial cultivation. He claimed Wontumi Farms had acquired 100,000 acres of land and that developing 2,500 hectares would create employment for 6,000 families, supporting an estimated 38,000 individuals. The bank application included a 'Board Resolution Letter' signed by Thomas Antwi-Boasiako, stating authorization during a board meeting on 9th December 2017, before Wontumi Farms Limited was legally incorporated on 14 December 2017.
