Wontumi first casualty of ORAL, others could follow - Mustapha Gbande
Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), described New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, as the first casualty of the government's accountability drive under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, speaking on JoyPrime on 22 July. Mr Gbande stated, "Wontumi is the number one casualty of ORAL. Others will follow."
Mr Gbande alleged that some members of the NPP had issued threats against the NDC and insisted that political actors must be held accountable. He urged them to allow the law to take its course, stating, "They should allow the law to take its course… they should go to hell." He also said, "They should collapse all the laws in this country, extend the prisons, and put all of us in this. But in the next eight years, they will face it squarely." Mr Gbande criticized a culture where public office holders use political appointments to accumulate wealth and influence.
