Wontumi applies for bail pending appeal after imprisonment at Nsawam Prison

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Wontumi, filed an application at the High Court on August 5, 2026, seeking bail pending the determination of his appeal against his conviction. The application states that the first appellant is currently incarcerated at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons. The Notice of Motion, filed by his lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, invokes Section 96(1) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30) and Section 33(1) of the Courts Act, 1993 (Act 459).

Wontumi was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment after Criminal Court 4 Division of the High Court found him guilty on all six charges brought against him. He, along with Akonta Mining Limited and Kwame Antwi, was prosecuted over illegal mining activities on the company's concession at Samreboi.
