Why the Court of Appeal is unable to rule on AG's stay application
Sedina Tamakloe Attionu remained in custody after a newly constituted Court of Appeal panel failed to reach a decision on the Attorney-General's application for a stay of execution on Friday morning. The court will now seek a warrant from the Chief Justice to sit during the legal vacation. Ms Tamakloe Attionu was acquitted and discharged by a previous panel just a day earlier, on Thursday, July 30. The Attorney-General's office filed an urgent application for a stay of execution hours after the acquittal, serving it on prison authorities in the evening, but Ms Tamakloe Attionu's lawyers were not informed. Her legal team learned of the application through informal channels.
