We need to keep the judiciary far away from our politics - Miracles Aboagye
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an NPP communications team member and aspiring National Communications Officer, spoke on JoyNews' PM Express on Tuesday, arguing that Ghana's judiciary must remain completely independent of political influence. He stated, "I am of the view that we need to keep our judiciary very far away from our politics, far, far, far away from our politics." Mr. Aboagye disclosed that he had written to the Chief Justice about what he described as an increasingly close relationship between the judiciary and the Executive, specifically mentioning his "worry about his relationship and his romance with the executive, and the fact that it's becoming too glaring."
The NPP parliamentary caucus and its supporters are expected to stage a protest over concerns about the administration of justice. This demonstration follows weeks of accusations by the opposition that the justice system is being applied selectively in politically sensitive cases. Mr. Aboagye explained that although he did not receive a direct response from the Chief Justice, the Judicial Secretary later issued a statement addressing some of the concerns he had raised, which he found clarified certain things. Despite this clarification, Mr. Aboagye insisted his concerns remain, stating he felt "uncomfortable that you are looking too close. The proximity within which you seem to be moving around with these people-it's becoming too blatant." He believes such perceptions undermine public confidence in the courts.
