Watch as Ghanaians mourn compatriot killed in Russia-Ukraine war
A Ghanaian died fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war. Family members and colleagues bid farewell to their compatriot in a video that surfaced online. The deceased, whose identity is not immediately known, was laid in a coffin at what appeared to be a cemetery in Russia.
His colleagues, also Ghanaians, eulogised him and shared their final words in Twi. One colleague said, "Damrifa Due. You have fought well. Damrifa Due…," before ending with a salute. Another colleague stated, "No one knows what lies ahead of them except God the creator. There is a saying that no life can take what death holds. What has happened has happened and all we will say is for God to keep you safely…" Uniformed men, believed to be Russian soldiers, carried the coffin to its final resting place.
In 2024, a video emerged on social media of a group of young men believed to be Ghanaians, fighting for the Russian Army. The men endorsed Fly Away Travel Agency, claiming it facilitated their recruitment into the Russian Army. The men said, "Go to Fly Away Travel Agency, trust in them, and they will bring you to Russia. This is not a lie. We are all Ghanaians, and we were brought here. These are our guns."
