"Unacceptable"- Chief condemns NDC's attempt to disrupt Minority's engagement with cocoa farmers
Frank Annoh-Dompreh-led NPP MPs held a scheduled interaction with farmers the second day of an Ashanti regional tour assessing the impact of the cocoa price cut in the Ahafo Ano North District. The Chief of Bonkrom condemned the NDC's actions, stating "Today's incident was unacceptable. As community leaders, my elders and I are not opposed to any party, including the NDC. If you wish to organize an event, please approach us to discuss and schedule it properly. It's essential to keep us informed before proceeding with any program."
Local NDC officials scheduled a parallel meeting with the farmers at the same venue on the same day, leading to a clash. Security personnel intervened to prevent NDC members from holding their event on the premises. Bokromhene Nana Kwadwo Nsiah I confirmed the incident and explained he halted the NDC event because he had not been informed. He disclosed that he had been officially informed about the Minority Caucus' meeting with the farmers and that the durbar grounds had been booked for the event approximately two weeks prior. Farmers expressed concern about the NDC members' attempts to disrupt their meeting with NPP MPs. Cocoa farmer Yaw Ofori said they changed the venue to Bonkrom after receiving information that NDC supporters were planning to disrupt the meeting at Akwasiase. Dapaah Eric added that some NDC members attempted to use the same venue that the Minority Caucus had booked.
The leadership of the Minority Caucus has not yet issued a response regarding the matter, and it remains unclear when an official statement will be made.
