Two killed, 10 injured in Dompoase crash on Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway
Two people were confirmed dead and ten others sustained injuries following a road crash at Dompoase on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway on Friday evening. The Komenda Fire Station rescue team responded to a distress call at about 6:55 p.m. and rescued one victim trapped inside a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle with registration number AS 6145-24. Preliminary reports indicate the Toyota Hiace was carrying ten passengers, all of whom sustained injuries. Three victims suffered severe injuries and were transported to the Elmina Polyclinic.
Personnel from the National Ambulance Service later confirmed that two of the victims had died from their injuries. Eyewitness accounts state the accident occurred after an unidentified vehicle travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle. The driver of the oncoming Toyota Hiace, heading from Cape Coast towards Takoradi, reportedly swerved to avoid a head-on collision but crashed into a broken-down truck with registration number GN 2491-14 parked along the road. Authorities are expected to commence further investigations.
