Two Arrested, 170 Parcels of Suspected Indian Hemp Seized in Tamale Drug Raid
The Northern Regional Police Command arrested two men suspected of drug trafficking and recovered 170 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, following an intelligence-led operation at Katariga in the Tamale Metropolis on Monday, 27 July 2026, at around 5:30 p.m. The first suspect, Godwin Yamegi, 32, was arrested with two parcels and named Seth Amekuse, 33, as his alleged supplier. A search of Amekuse's residence recovered a further 168 parcels.
Both men remain in police custody assisting investigations and will be arraigned once investigations conclude. The recovered items have been handed to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for further investigation and forensic processing, and their composition has not yet been independently confirmed by laboratory analysis. The Command renewed its call for public cooperation, encouraging residents to report drug-related and other criminal activity.
