Three suspects arrested in Tempane over deadly Worinyanga attacks
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man and a violent attack on the newly enskinned chief of Tindorunga community in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region. The attack occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Worinyanga. Sambin Halidu and his family were preparing for his enskinment ceremony when armed men stormed the family's house and fired indiscriminately.
A vehicle belonging to the family, a Mitsubishi 4×4 with registration number GE 1115-13, was also set ablaze. Iddrisu Sumaila, who sustained gunshot wounds, was later pronounced dead at hospital. Police arrested Majeed Bawumya, 34; Milla Justice, 27; and Majeed Awudu, 20, during an operation on the morning of May 26. A search at the residence of Majeed Bawumya Agbango, also known as Atan Majeed, led to the retrieval of a BRUNI MOD 92 Cal. 8mmK pistol, several sharp objects, GH¢600 in cash, and three mobile phones believed to be connected to the crime. Preliminary investigations indicate the attack was rooted in a dispute over the enskinment.
On the night of May 25, suspect Alhassan Sabrina and other accomplices, currently at large, allegedly gathered at Majeed Bawumya Agbango's residence to plan the attack. The Upper East Regional Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspects.
