Teshie-Nungua Substation set for major transformer upgrade; ECG outlines four-day power interruption schedule
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a planned transformer upgrade at the Teshie-Nungua Primary Substation as part of the government's ongoing Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme. As part of the upgrade, ECG will replace an existing 20/26MVA transformer with a higher-capacity 30/39MVA unit at the Teshie-Nungua Primary Substation. The exercise is scheduled to run from Monday, April 27 to Thursday, April 30, 2026.
To facilitate the installation works, ECG says there will be phased and rotational power interruptions across the Teshie-Nungua enclave, affecting various communities in Groups A to E. Each group will experience outages lasting between five and six hours, depending on the schedule. Affected areas include parts of Grada Estates, Century Road, Teshie Zongo, First Junction, Teshie-Nungua Estate, Lekma Hospital environs, Teshie Cemetery area, Railways area, Manet Court Estates, Okpoigono, Ataa Odoi, Tsuibleoo, and surrounding communities. The utility company acknowledged the inconvenience the planned outages may cause but stressed that the project is essential for long-term improvements in electricity distribution.
ECG added that detailed outage schedules will be communicated through its official platforms throughout the duration of the exercise.
