Suspects arrested in NACOC anti-drug raids in Accra and Oti

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a number of suspects and confiscated quantities of illegal drugs following a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations across parts of Greater Accra and the Oti Region. The operations were intelligence-led and executed over the weekend as part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse nationwide. The Greater Accra operations zeroed in on identified drug dens in Kissieman, Dome, and Kwabenya, while a separate operation was simultaneously conducted at Alavanyo in the Oti Region.

According to NACOC, quantities of suspected narcotic substances and other materials believed to be connected to drug-related activities were recovered during the exercise. The Commission did not disclose the number of individuals arrested, the specific types of drugs seized, or the quantities involved. The identities of officers who participated in the operations were also not released. Earlier in the year, the Commission mounted a four-day operation spanning Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, resulting in the arrest of suspected drug dealers in Ashaiman and the seizure of cannabis, hashish, hashish oil, and cannabis-infused products from areas including Circle, Avenor, and Labadi. On May 1, 2026, the Commission extended its campaign to Winneba ahead of the Aboakyiri Festival, targeting known drug hotspots in the Effutu Municipality, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of suspected narcotics.

All arrested suspects remain in custody, assisting investigators as the Commission prepares to pursue prosecution. On April 30, 2026, NACOC intercepted a 40-foot trailer transporting approximately five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg, believed to be destined for Niger. Four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the haul, which investigators suspect forms part of a wider cross-border drug trafficking network.
