Suspect arrested in murder of car dealer found burnt at Atomic Junction
Yaw Osei Ashitey Amma was murdered on April 7, 2026 at Atomic Junction on the Legon bypass road. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder.
The suspect, identified as Wisdom Tetteh, was arrested in Togo on April 30, 2026, through an Interpol operation while allegedly attempting to dispose of the deceased's mobile phone. He was later handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Aflao border and transported to the CID headquarters. According to preliminary police investigations, the suspect allegedly lured the deceased to his residence on April 6, 2026, under the guise of a vehicle sale and inflicted fatal head injuries on him. The suspect allegedly sold the deceased's Hyundai Elantra, valued at GH¢172,000, and received part payment of GH¢18,000. The suspect allegedly transported the body to Atomic Junction, removed the vehicle's number plate and set both the car and the body on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, noted that the extent of burns on the deceased's body made immediate identification difficult, compelling investigators to obtain DNA samples from family members to confirm his identity.
Investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting with inquiries.
