Students of Techiman-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College protest over poor conditions
Students of the Techiman-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College staged a demonstration on Wednesday night in the Bono East Region to protest what they describe as poor living and learning conditions at the institution, while demanding the removal of the principal. The students wore red armbands and reportedly forced the principal off campus, locking the offices of some staff members.
The protesters accused the school's management of failing to address longstanding concerns despite high fees. Challenges cited included inadequate lighting, poor sanitation, and the quality of food. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the poor attitude of some lecturers. The demonstration began on Wednesday night, with police intervention preventing widespread destruction. Students marched from Krobo to Techiman, a distance of more than four miles. Efforts to obtain a response from Principal Ms Helen Dwamena were unsuccessful. Police have arrested a number of students and some journalists in connection with the protest.
