Sports Ministry denies outstanding Black Queens per diems, clarifies bonus payments

Ghana's Ministry of Sports and Recreation rejected claims of outstanding per diem payments to the Black Queens on August 12, 2026, in a press statement. The Ministry stated, "Accordingly, as of 12 August 2026, Government has no outstanding per diem obligation to the Black Queens." This clarification followed concerns raised by Black Queens players regarding unpaid bonuses, per diems, welfare, and government support during their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in Morocco.

Players and eligible officials received advance per diems on July 29 for the period covering July 26 to August 7, 2026, acknowledged through signed allowance sheets. An additional per diem payment was made on August 11 to cover August 8 to August 14, following the team's quarter-final elimination and continued stay in Morocco for the FIFA Women's World Cup play-in pathway. The Ministry also stated that Ghana recorded one victory during the WAFCON group stage, against Cape Verde, entitling players and eligible officials to one winning bonus from the group stage, which is processed separately from per diems.
