Six including 3 Chinese nationals arrested over murder at galamsey site at Gwira Ampansie
The Western Regional Police Command arrested six suspects on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at an illegal mining site at Gwira Ampansie in the Nzema East District. The suspects are connected to the fatal shooting of a man. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Angu Mensah, who was the Abusuapanyi of Gwira Ampansie.
The suspects have been identified as Hamza Abubakar, 36; Hamidu Seidu, 42; Francis Biewose, 26; Bai Yaozheng, 36; Liu Gang, 43; and Wen Xien Wen, 45. The police received a distress call around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday reporting a shooting incident at the mining site. Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. following a misunderstanding between the deceased and some individuals at the site. During the confrontation, a man identified as Alfred Sadick, also known as Strongman, allegedly pulled out a weapon and shot Angu Mensah in the chest. According to a statement signed by Superintendent Olivia Etu Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, a team of officers, together with personnel from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, immediately proceeded to the scene.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the main suspect, Alfred Sadick, who is currently on the run. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Western Regional Police Command is appealing to the public to volunteer any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect known as Strongman by contacting the Regional Police Command or the Axim Police Station.
