"Sit up and show up with excellence" - MTN's Georgina Fiagbenu challenges youth
Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Acting General Manager for Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN Ghana, challenged over 100 university students at the 2026 National Youth Mentorship Summit at the University of Ghana to stop waiting for opportunities and start preparing to create value. She stated that Ghana's future will be shaped by how young people "choose to show up."
The summit, themed "Youth Innovation and Wealth Creation, Shaping Ghana's Future," was organized by the Lec Group, an educational NGO. Mrs. Fiagbenu said the biggest problem facing young graduates is not unemployment, but unpreparedness. She recounted an experience where she interviewed several young graduates for a personal initiative called Africans Communicating Africa, needing someone with communication skills for two years, but "couldn't find one person who met the standard I was looking for. Not a single graduate." She added that employers are looking for "disciplined, competent, and reliable individuals."
