Seven people were arrested after deadly Damankungyili-Nyeshie land clashes in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region. The clashes, linked to a dispute over a parcel of land, left one person dead and six others injured. The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) imposed an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew on Damankungyili, Nyeshie, and adjoining communities, effective Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Residents must remain indoors between 5pm and 7am daily.
MUSEC also banned the carrying of firearms, ammunition, and other weapons within the affected communities. This decision followed an emergency meeting with the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC). Abdulai Imoro Gong, MUSEC Chairman and Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, condemned the violence and appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. He urged anyone with information to assist police investigations and called on chiefs, youth leaders, and the media to support de-escalation efforts. MUSEC will continue to monitor the situation and review security measures.
