Sefwi Sayerano residents block road after alleged Police shooting leaves 2 dead, others injured
Residents of Sefwi Sayerano blocked a major road on Tuesday in protest after a police operation in the community allegedly left two people dead and two others injured. The unrest reportedly erupted after officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command stormed the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler. Residents claim some community members attempted to resist the arrest, leading to a confrontation during which the police allegedly opened fire.
The shooting is said to have claimed the lives of two individuals on the spot, while two others sustained gunshot wounds and fractures and have since been rushed to a health facility for treatment. Residents also claim that another person is missing. One of the bodies has been deposited at a morgue, while the other remained in the community at the time of filing this report. A resident, Okyeame Kwaku Ortiz, condemned what he described as the police's poor handling of the operation and called on authorities to investigate the incident. The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official statement.
