Sammi Awuku calls for calm after deadly Akropong chieftaincy clash
Sammi Awuku called for calm and unity following renewed tensions over a chieftaincy dispute at Akwapim-Akropong in the Eastern Region. His appeal comes after Kwasi Ansah Eku, known as "Dragon", was shot dead during a police operation linked to the dispute.
The police situational report stated that the deceased allegedly opened fire on officers while resisting arrest, leading to a gun battle that lasted about two hours. The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 10, involved personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate with support from the Ghana Police Service headquarters. The exercise is part of efforts to arrest individuals captured in viral videos allegedly participating in violent clashes during the Awukudae celebration on April 8.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr. Awuku said that although calm is gradually returning, tension remains in the area. He urged residents to allow the law to take its course, calling for a peaceful resolution to the dispute, stating, "We are a beautiful state; we shouldn't let this divide us."
