Sagnarigu MUSEC imposes curfew on Damankungyili, Nyeshie following deadly clash
Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Damankungyili, Nyeshie, and adjoining communities in the Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region. The curfew will be in force daily from 1700 hours to 0700 hours until further notice. This followed violent disturbances that claimed one life and left six others injured in those communities. The decision was announced in a press statement issued after an emergency meeting by the MUSEC, held on Tuesday, to assess the security situation following the clashes between the two communities.
The statement was signed by Mr. Abdulai Imoro Gong, the Chairman of the MUSEC and Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive. The emergency meeting was convened following disturbances between the communities of Damankungyili and Nyeshie, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to six others. The Council strongly condemned the violence, describing the loss of life and injuries sustained by residents as unfortunate and unacceptable. The curfew was imposed in consultation with the Northern Regional Security Council as part of measures to restore calm, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation of the conflict. The MUSEC also announced a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the affected communities. The Council directed the deployment of increased joint Police patrols to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order in the area. It appealed to residents to comply fully with the directives and cooperate with the security agencies to ensure a quick return to peace.
