Richard Ahiagbah explains NPP Democracy Under Attack protest, calls for fairness in state investigations

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), described the party's "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration as a legitimate expression of concern over what it believes is the selective application of justice and the alleged targeting of opposition members by state institutions. Speaking to Channel One TV during Thursday's demonstration, Mr. Ahiagbah said: "Raymond Archer is doing his work, but he must do it professionally. We don't have any intention of gagging state institutions. What we are saying is that they must do their work professionally and nobody will complain if they do their work professionally."

The protest was organized to draw national attention to issues the party considers critical to the protection of the rule of law, fairness, and the independence of state investigative bodies. Mr. Ahiagbah maintained that the NPP was not opposed to the work of institutions such as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), but insisted that they must carry out their constitutional responsibilities impartially and professionally. He also appealed to EOCO's Executive Director, Raymond Archer, to ensure that investigations are conducted without bias and in a manner that inspires public confidence. The "Democracy Under Attack" demonstration attracted hundreds of NPP supporters, party executives, and sympathizers.
