Residents of Penteng live in fear following land guard-related crimes
Residents of Penteng are living in fear following a surge in violent activities linked to land guards in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region. The community has witnessed incidents including a man losing his wrist, the torching of a seven-bedroom family home, and the destruction of another building at lintel level. Adom News visited Penteng on Wednesday to assess the situation.
Paulina Fosu, an affected resident, appealed to authorities for intervention, saying, "We are afraid. They nearly burnt my house too. After burning March's father's house, they said they would be back. Now, we cannot stay in our own homes." Darko Felicity, sister of Yaw Darko, explained that her brother defended his property with a cutlass after land guards destroyed his ongoing project. Suspected land guards then set their father's house ablaze, displacing several family members. Darko Felicity recounted that someone came to their house around 11 am and warned them to run because her brother had injured someone, and that by 4 to 5 pm, they were informed that their house had been set on fire.
Darko Felicity added that her family is now homeless and their lives remain under threat, as the suspected land guards have promised further retaliation. Grace Kusi, Yaw Darko's aunt, confirmed that all occupants are now without shelter and called on non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assist them. She also urged security agencies to ensure the protection of all family members.
