Desmond De-Graft Kwesi Paitoo, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, was heckled by angry residents and commercial drivers at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region after participating in the National Sanitation Day exercise. The residents accused successive governments of failing to fulfil repeated promises to rehabilitate the Kasoa-Nyanyano road, which serves Gomoa Nyanyano and surrounding communities with a combined population of more than 100,000 people. They alleged the contractor abandoned the site after the government failed to release required mobilisation funds.
The incident became tense before police officers intervened and escorted the MP away. Residents appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways to urgently intervene and ensure the completion of the Kasoa-Nyanyano road. Mr. Paitoo acknowledged the residents' anger and assured the community he would continue engaging relevant authorities to ensure the road project is completed before the 2028 general elections.
