Police nabbed 12 over highway attacks in the Ashanti Region on March 12 and 14, 2026, spanning several towns including Offinso, Nkenkaasu, Akomadan, Techiman, and Sunyani. The 12 suspects are linked to a string of violent attacks across the region and beyond. The police recovered three locally manufactured shotguns, a locally made pistol, nine live BB cartridges, four cutlasses, a sword, and two knives.
The operation was a collaboration between the regional command and the Police Intelligence Directorate's Surveillance Unit in Accra. The suspects were paraded on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Regional Police Headquarters in Asante Mampong. Among those in custody are Seidu Fuseini, alias Baali, an ex-convict released in 2022; Dramani Rasak, 22, who is currently out on bail for a murder case in Kumasi; Moro Yakubu, also known as Dogo, an ex-convict; and Ibrahim Issiaka, 28, alias Jaaji, who escaped from the Jaima Police Station. The police also seized 41 mobile phones, seven phone covers, three black hooded outfits (one stained with blood), and a fertilizer bag used to conceal the weapons.
ACP Felix Apedo detailed the syndicate's alleged reign of terror, citing a February 23, 2026, attack at about 4:20 a.m. on the Nsuta-Hwidiem Old Junction Road, where armed men wielding shotguns and cutlasses made off with GH¢57,000 and mobile phones.
