Police arrest 10 over suspected cyber fraud, rescue 9 trafficking victims in Afienya
The Tema Regional Police Command arrested 10 suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected cyber-enabled fraud at Mataheko-Afienya in the Greater Accra Region. The operation, which also led to the rescue of 9 suspected victims of human trafficking, was disclosed by the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, at a press briefing on Wednesday, July 21, 2026. Officers recovered 28 laptop computers and 9 mobile phones during the operation, which are expected to aid investigations into the alleged cybercrime activities.
COP Donkor stated that the operation forms part of the CID's efforts to tackle cybercrime, human trafficking, and other forms of organised crime through intelligence-led policing and digital investigations. She added, "The Criminal Investigations Department remains committed to intelligence-led policing, digital forensic investigations, and collaboration with national and international partners to combat cybercrime, human trafficking, and other forms of organised crime." The identities of the suspects have not yet been disclosed, and police have not indicated whether they have been formally charged. Police say investigations into the case are ongoing.
