PIAC raises concern over abandoned Agenda 111 hospital project at Tease
The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has expressed concern over the abandonment of the Agenda 111 hospital project at Tease in the Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region. The PIAC is urging government to prioritise the completion of the projects, especially those in the health sector, to improve healthcare delivery and accelerate socio-economic development in beneficiary communities. As part of its monitoring and evaluation tour, the PIAC inspected petroleum-funded projects in both Afram Plains North and South districts, where it observed that several facilities remain stalled or abandoned.
At Tease, the Agenda 111 hospital project was found to be incomplete despite its strategic importance to residents. The Committee also noted that several educational infrastructure projects had been abandoned, with only a water irrigation project reported to be completed and operational. PIAC Committee Member Samuel Bekwin stressed the need for urgent government intervention to complete stalled projects so that citizens can benefit fully from petroleum revenues. He also called for stronger efforts to attract investment into the petroleum sector and support the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in boosting crude oil production, noting a decline in output in recent years.
The Chief of Forifori, Nana Gyima Brempong Yeboah II, expressed disappointment over the stalled hospital project, describing it as critical to healthcare delivery in the area, where residents currently lack access to a district hospital. He disclosed that the Church of Pentecost has shown interest in partnering with government to complete the facility and appealed for swift engagement to finalise arrangements. Stakeholders say the completion of the Tease hospital project remains key to improving healthcare access for residents of Afram Plains North and South.
