'Peter was our pillar of strength' - Family mourns Squadron Leader Anala one year after helicopter crash
Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala died on August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter crashed at Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region. His family stated that adjusting to life without him has been extremely difficult, and a family member, Percy Anala, said, "Peter was more than a pilot. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring son, a dependable brother, and a pillar of strength for our family."
The crash claimed the lives of eight statesmen and officials, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah. Squadron Leader Anala was among the three crew members and five passengers who died while travelling to the Ashanti Region in connection with efforts to combat illegal mining. The family shared their reflections during the government's one-year inter-faith memorial service held in Accra to honour the victims.
