Pastor arrested over alleged romance scam
Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, a self-acclaimed pastor, was arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly defrauding women through romance scams. A Police statement issued on Monday indicated that Kwarteng posed as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram, where he allegedly targeted women and claimed that God had revealed they were his future wives. He is accused of defrauding women through false marriage promises and the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
The statement added that Kwarteng allegedly gained the trust of victims by meeting their families and presenting them with promise rings. He allegedly obtained intimate images of some victims and used them to blackmail them into paying money. Kwarteng also allegedly introduced some victims to a fictitious car tyre business and collected thousands of dollars from them. Further investigations revealed that he allegedly shared intimate images of some victims with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is also accused of threatening the victims. Seven victims have so far reported the matter, with alleged offences dating back to 2021. Kwarteng and Amoasah have been arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court One on charges including conspiracy to commit crime and non-consensual sharing of intimate images. The court remanded Kwarteng into Police custody to reappear on August 6.
