ORAL is still working and prosecuting corruption cases - Deputy AG
Dr Justice Srem-Sai, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, dismissed claims on Sunday, July 26, on The Law on JoyNews with Samson Lardy Anyenini, that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is no longer active. He insisted that the team is still working to pursue cases arising from its investigations, stating, "ORAL is still working."
Dr Srem-Sai explained that ORAL has contributed to the identification and prosecution of several cases, including that of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi. He noted that the Wontumi case started in January and was closed by the middle of March, with the trial completed within two months. On July 20, the Accra High Court sentenced Chairman Wontumi to 20 years' imprisonment over illegal mining activities on the Samreboi concession in the Western Region. Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay delivered the sentence on Monday, July 20, 2026.
