Ofori Panin school nurse killed in motorbike accident
Edward Cann, the Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS) nurse, died in a motorbike accident on Friday, May 8, 2026, near the OPASS Junction. He was riding from Kukurantumi when the accident occurred. He was rushed to the New Tafo-Akim Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initial findings suggest the crash may have been caused by a mechanical oversight, specifically that Mr. Cann may have unknowingly ridden off without disengaging the motorbike's kickstand. The kickstand is suspected to have struck the road, causing him to lose control. In a statement issued on May 8 and signed by C/Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the Ghana Police Service extended condolences to the bereaved family and the entire OPASS community.
Mr. Cann's body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending preservation and autopsy. The motorbike involved in the accident has been impounded at the New Tafo Police Station as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
