Ofankor-Nsawam road project reaches 82% completion - Resident Engineer
Ing. Kwabena Bempong, Chief Resident Engineer for the Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project, disclosed on Tuesday, May 26, to Channel One News that construction works on the highway have reached 82% completion. He stated, "Currently, the total calculation is that we are 82% complete technically. What is left to be done is the Nsawam section, and we are going to move about 300 cubic metres of earthworks."
The project has recorded significant technical progress, with most of the major structural works already completed. The final phase of the project will focus on earthworks and finishing activities. The Ofankor-Nsawam road project has suffered repeated delays over the years and remains a major transport corridor linking Accra to several communities along the eastern corridor.
The project has missed its revised completion deadline of May 21, 2025, after previously failing to meet the initial completion target of July 20, 2024. Authorities have attributed the latest delay to unresolved compensation claims and challenges with relocating utility installations belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Limited. Officials are now seeking an extension of time to complete the remaining works.
