Obuasi youth murder: Chiefs appeal to police, judiciary for swift action
Naa Mohammed Awal Abubakar II, the Dagomba Chief in Adansi, called for justice to prevail following the murder of a Dagomba youth in Obuasi. The call was made at a press conference jointly organised by Dagomba and Mossi authorities to calm tensions and prevent possible violence in the community. Naa Mohammed Awal Abubakar II stated that the victim, Abdul Jabal, had relatives and sympathisers who were considering retaliation, which prompted the leadership to intervene. He urged the youth to remain calm, avoid engaging in criminal acts, and allow the appropriate state agencies to investigate and prosecute the case.
The chief appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief Justice to give the matter attention to ensure the arrest of all perpetrators and the delivery of justice to help restore peace in Obuasi. Alhaji Abdul Raman, Adansi Chief Mossi, together with Nurudeen Kamail, leader of the aggrieved Obuasi youth, said the youth would not disregard the directives of their chiefs and elders. However, they called for a credible outcome to address the anger and concerns within the community. Alhaji Abdul Raman also advised the youth to stay away from drug use, noting that substance abuse contributes to violent behaviour and conflicts.
