Obuasi SHTS headmaster injured after students' attack over alleged ritual
Abdulia Zakaria, headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), was allegedly attacked by students in the early hours of Wednesday, August 5, 2026, on the school campus. The incident followed allegations by some students that the headmaster was involved in ritual activities within the school. He was initially taken to the AGA Health Foundation Hospital before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The unrest led to the destruction of two private vehicles belonging to teachers, damage to the headmaster's bungalow, and vandalism of other school properties. Some students also accused the headmaster of having inappropriate relationships with female students, claiming a female student became pregnant, aborted the pregnancy, and the remains were buried on the school compound by the headmaster. The Obuasi Divisional Police Command has intervened, and police investigations are ongoing. Female food vendors on campus reported that the unrest has affected their businesses.
