Nyinahin teacher reappears in court over assault case
Eric Apaflo Buernortey, a 39-year-old teacher, reappeared before the Nyinahin District Court on Friday over an assault case. He is charged with assault and pleaded not guilty. This is the second time he has been arraigned, with the first arraignment occurring after the issue broke out on June 8, 2026. The Nyinahin District Court, presided over by relieving judge Mr. Lord Delvin Essandoh, admitted Buernortey to bail in the sum of GHC80,000 with three sureties, who must be residents within the court's jurisdiction. The court also directed the teacher to report to the case investigator every two weeks on Mondays and cautioned the public against any misinformation, stating, "The public is hereby cautioned against any misinformation in respect of the matter as any misinformation would not be tolerated."
Prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Eric Owusu, stated that the complainant, Patricia Chibu, is an 18-year-old final year student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School. Buernortey is a tutor at the same school and a caretaker of Adusei Hostel adjacent to the school. On June 8, 2026, at about 12:00 noon, Buernortey cautioned Chibu and other male students occupying the hostel over misconduct. During the confrontation, Chibu insulted and mocked Buernortey, which offended him, leading to him attacking and assaulting her. Chibu then invited some town folks to the scene.
