Nyinahin SHS teacher accused of assaulting student re-arraigned and granted GH₵80,000 bail
Eric Apaflo Buernortey, a 39-year-old teacher, was re-arraigned on Friday before the Nyinahin District Court in the Ashanti Region, charged with assault. He pleaded not guilty. The Nyinahin District Court, presided over by relieving judge Lord Delvin Essandoh, admitted Buernortey to bail in the sum of GH₵80,000 with three sureties, who must be residents within the court's jurisdiction. The court also directed the teacher to report to the case investigator every two weeks on Mondays and cautioned the public against misinformation, stating, "The public is hereby cautioned against any misinformation in respect of the matter, as any misinformation would not be tolerated."
This is the second time the teacher has been arraigned, with the first arraignment occurring after the issue broke out on June 8, 2026. The matter was previously withdrawn by the Police, and the accused was discharged. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Eric Owusu, stated that the complainant, Patricia Chibu, is an 18-year-old final-year student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, and Buernortey is a tutor at the same school and caretaker of Adusei Hostel. On June 8, 2026, at about 12:00 noon, the accused cautioned the complainant and other male students over misconduct, and during the confrontation, the complainant insulted and mocked the accused, leading to the teacher attacking and assaulting her.
