NVTI examiner calls for government support for apprenticeship graduates to tackle youth unemployment
Christiana Bossman, an examiner with the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) in Sunyani, appealed to the government at Goaso while supervising final practical examinations of beautician apprentices. She requested start-up support for graduates of apprenticeship programmes in the Bono and Ahafo regions to address youth unemployment. Ms. Bossman stated, "The major challenge now is where these graduates will establish their businesses. Government and the assemblies should consider allocating spaces where they can operate after completing their training." She noted that many graduates struggle to establish businesses despite acquiring employable skills due to a lack of financial support and business spaces, particularly in the beauty industry.
Dorothy Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of High Lady Beautician School, also called on the government to prioritize apprenticeship graduates in its job creation agenda. Mrs. Bonsu highlighted that many trainees in the Ahafo Region come from underprivileged backgrounds and lack the financial resources to start their own businesses after graduation. She added that providing start-up assistance would improve their livelihoods.
