NPP grassroots demand resolution amid election crisis in Assin South
NPP grassroots members in the Assin South Constituency are challenging what they describe as "deliberate attempts" by certain party members and national-level actors to undermine the constituency's internal electoral process. The group, led by convener David Kwabena Marfo, expressed concern over actions they believe threaten the peace and unity of the constituency, which is the only NPP-held seat between Adansi Asokwa and Takoradi. The controversy involves eight individuals: Robert Oppong Amoateng, Mark Dankwah, Kofi Serebour, Frank Owusu, Samuel Sackey, Theophilus Essuman Amoakoh, Awo Asuamaa, and Enoch Botchway.
These individuals reportedly bypassed party protocols by submitting nomination forms to the regional level instead of the constituency elections committee. They also boycotted the official vetting process and failed to use the formal appeal process after their names were omitted from the official Notice of Poll. On July 6, 2026, two contradictory letters surfaced from the office of the Acting National Chairman; one ordered a suspension of the Assin South elections, while the other reportedly cleared the aforementioned individuals to contest. The crisis deepened on July 7 when some of these cleared candidates filed for an interlocutory injunction against the elections. The grassroots group questioned the logic of this legal action, asking, "If these individuals had been cleared to contest, what necessitated the resort to court?"
