NPA to revise diesel price floor following government's GH¢2 per litre subsidy
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) announced it will revise the diesel price floor after the government introduced a GH¢2 per litre subsidy. This action follows President John Dramani Mahama's directive for the NPA to absorb GH¢2 on every litre of diesel to cushion consumers against rising fuel costs. The new price floor takes effect on Tuesday and will serve as the minimum price for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) during the current pricing window.
Abass Tasunti, the NPA's Director of Economic Regulation and Planning, stated on Joy FM's Midday News that the government's intervention has been factored into the petroleum price build-up. He explained on Monday, August 3, that "With this intervention, what it means is that the current price floor that we set for diesel for this window will be reduced by GH¢2 per litre for diesel." Mr. Tasunti added that the NPA is working on a communiqué to inform OMCs about this directive and will issue a new price floor today, effective tomorrow.
