Nkwanta South Assembly tackles teacher accommodation crisis with new housing projects
Nkwanta South Assembly has intensified efforts to address accommodation challenges affecting teachers in rural communities. The Assembly has embarked on the construction of six-unit bungalow accommodation facilities at Nyambong-Junction, along with two additional units at Nkpaya, with work now nearing completion. The project forms part of the Assembly's "Teacher Adabre" initiative.
Joseph Awal Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, describing the intervention as critical to strengthening education delivery in the municipality. He noted that providing decent accommodation close to schools will help reduce absenteeism, improve punctuality and enhance teacher-community relations, ultimately contributing to better learning outcomes. Education remains a key priority under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and the area's Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Kini. The inspection team also visited Brewaniase, where they assessed progress on other ongoing projects, including the construction of a police station and water-related facilities.
At Nkpaya, the team inspected a newly completed three-unit classroom block with kindergarten facilities and a teachers' office, which is awaiting commissioning. The Municipal Education Director, Jonathan Korsinah, commended the Assembly for prioritising education, noting that improved accommodation and classroom infrastructure will significantly enhance teaching and learning outcomes. Education authorities are optimistic that the interventions will ease staffing challenges, increase instructional time, and improve academic performance across the municipality.
