Night attack horror at Nkwanta South: Survivor loses mother and sister, battles trauma
Ms Gueenata Yeho is battling severe psychological trauma after surviving a brutal night attack that claimed the lives of her mother and younger sister in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region. The incident occurred on March 25, 2026, between 2300 hours and midnight while she and her family were asleep at their home. According to Ms. Yeho, unidentified assailants forcibly broke into the room, poured petrol on them and launched a violent attack using cutlasses in what she described as a targeted assault.
Ms. Yeho said she managed to escape, leaving behind her mother and younger sister. She noted that the traumatic experience continues to haunt her, affecting her ability to sleep and eat. "I keep seeing everything that happened. I cannot sleep, and I do not feel like eating," she said. She added that although she frequently visited Nkwanta because of her mother, she now finds it difficult to return following the tragic incident. "They burnt my mother and my younger sister. We have lost everything. My father is already dead, and now my mother is gone," she lamented.
Ms. Yeho appealed to the government, benevolent organisations, and philanthropists for support to enable her to continue her education, stating that she has been left with no immediate family support.
