'Newsroom Poverty' launch sparks debate on journalists' welfare
Abdul Hayi Moomen officially launched his new book, *Newsroom Poverty: The Silent Crisis in Ghanaian Journalism*, on Saturday, August 1, before a packed audience at the University for Development Studies (UDS). The event was described by many as "more than a book launch" and "the beginning of a long-overdue national conversation about the welfare and dignity of journalists in Ghana."
The over 300-seat Twin Oval Auditorium on the Tamale Campus of UDS was filled to capacity. Moomen currently serves as the Director of Public Affairs at the University for Development Studies and previously worked as a journalist, news anchor, and editor with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). The launch was chaired by Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, and featured investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni as the Lead Master of Ceremonies.
