Mother of the late Dominic Frimpong breaks silence after robbery attack
Dominic Frimpong was killed on Sunday night in a brutal armed robbery attack on the team's bus. The 20-year-old was a Berekum Chelsea forward. The attack occurred along the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso stretch.
Frimpong was among players and officials returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex in Samreboi when armed robbers blocked the road and opened fire on the bus. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His mother described him as "the backbone of the family and the main provider who worked tirelessly to support them and build a better future." She also said, "He means everything to me. He was my firstborn, and we did almost everything together, including making decisions. He is very respectful and avoids conflict, something anyone can testify to. Although he is grown, he always listens whenever I advise or caution him." Frimpong joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana Stars in January and had featured 13 times in the Ghana Premier League this season, scoring twice.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to review security arrangements for team movements in the wake of the tragedy. The incident has shocked Ghana's football community and renewed concerns about the safety of clubs travelling for domestic matches.
