Massive fire razes Poku Pharma warehouse at Fumesua
Poku Pharma Company Limited experienced a fire outbreak that destroyed a warehouse and pharmaceutical products at Fumesua. The incident triggered a firefighting operation by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The distress call was received at about 7:57 p.m., with the first fire crew from the KNUST Fire Station arriving at the scene at 8:15 p.m.
Two additional fire engines from the Asokore Mampong Fire Station and the Regional Headquarters Substation were deployed. Firefighters brought the fire under control at about 9:50 p.m., but final extinguishing operations continued until 7:17 a.m. on Tuesday. The warehouse and its contents, including assorted drugs, were completely destroyed. Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to two adjoining storey buildings, an accounts office and some raw materials. No injuries or fatalities were recorded. The GNFS commended its personnel for their swift response and professionalism.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, Peter Tetteh, together with other senior officers, supervised the operation at the scene.
