MASLOC case: Samson Lardy Anyenini explains Sedina's trial, conviction and 10-year sentence
Samson Lardy Anyenini, a private legal practitioner, provided a detailed explanation of the trial, conviction, and sentencing of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu, on JoyNews' The Law on Sunday, August 2. He explained that Tamakloe-Attionu's trial followed due legal process, including the High Court's decision to proceed in her absence after she failed to return from a court-approved medical trip to the United States. Mr. Anyenini stated, "By the time she was expected to return, she had travelled to the US and never came back."
Tamakloe-Attionu initially participated in proceedings but later applied for permission to travel abroad for medical treatment. The High Court granted her request in July 2021, with the condition that she return on October 10, 2021, to begin her defense. The court granted several adjournments and issued notices through her lawyers before ordering the trial to proceed in absentia on February 24, 2023. The prosecution presented seven witnesses, all cross-examined by Tamakloe-Attionu's legal team. Mr. Anyenini explained that Ghana's legal framework allows a trial in absentia.
