Masked gunmen shoot herdsman dead near Wellembelle
Alidu Sallam was shot dead on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, at night near Wellembelle. According to ASP Adusei Poku, the Sissala East Police Commander, the police "received a report from a resident, indicating that his herdsman, identified as Alidu Sallam, had been shot without provocation."
The police discovered the victim's body approximately 10 kilometers from the town, lying in a hut with a gunshot wound to his upper right thigh. Preliminary investigations revealed a BB cartridge nearby. The attackers, riding an unregistered black Aloba apsonic motorbike, transported the victim to the back of the hut before shooting him. Dr Luke Binnebamile Kyengbe pronounced the victim dead at the Wellembelle Polyclinic. The body was released to the family for burial. Jonas Dimah Batong, the Assembly member for the Welembelle electoral area, said, "It is sad and heartbreaking. The community is ready to support the police to ensure the criminals are arrested".
Police say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects. Authorities are urging members of the public with relevant information to come forward to assist with ongoing investigations.
